Automated Exam Quality Analysis
The Pedagogical Problem
Immediately after an exam, educators need to swiftly identify learning gaps and grading anomalies to provide timely feedback. However, manually calculating robust statistical metrics—like medians, interquartile ranges (IQR), and identifying true statistical outliers—using standard spreadsheet software is often tedious, inflexible, and prone to formatting errors.
The Technical Solution
I designed a web-based data analysis utility specifically tailored for educational assessment. The tool allows teachers to paste raw, unformatted score data directly from Excel. Using a custom JavaScript engine, the application instantly computes core descriptive statistics (Mean, Median, Q1, Q3, Standard Deviation). Crucially, it employs the IQR method to automatically flag statistical outliers (Lower/Upper fences) and generates an intuitive score distribution table to visualize class performance at a glance.
Classroom Impact
This utility drastically reduces the administrative overhead associated with post-exam analysis. By instantly highlighting statistical outliers and visualizing score distributions, I can quickly pinpoint specific knowledge gaps and adjust my subsequent lesson plans accordingly. It enables true data-driven teaching, ensuring that students who are struggling receive targeted support immediately after an assessment.
